About CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that permanently eliminates unwanted body fat. This revolutionary treatment uses patented cryolipolysis technology. By delivering this precisely controlled cooling technology to the fat cells beneath the skin, the fat cells are frozen and destroyed. Over the following weeks, the body eliminates these dead fat cells by naturally flushing them out, leading to a gradually slimmer contour.

Clinically Proven to Produce Permanent Results
CoolSculpting is clinically proven to produce permanent results. Once the treated fat cells have been frozen through cryolipolysis, they die. The body’s natural reaction is to remove these dead fat cells through its natural elimination process. This is not temporary; the cells are permanently destroyed and eradicated from the body. Once these fat cells are gone, they are gone for good! Any area that receives treatment will have a permanent reduction in the number of fat cells.[2]
This begs the question: will I always be this slender? We discuss this in detail below.
Will I Always Be This Slender?
Because CoolSculpting permanently eliminates a portion of fat cells from the body, you will never regain those or any other fat cells. However, the remaining fat cells can still increase in size if you gain weight. This means that if you are not careful about managing your weight, your remaining fat cells could swell and give you a heavier body shape.

Nonetheless, because of the reduced number of fat cells due to CoolSculpting treatments, even with weight gain, your body will still be slimmer than it would have been if you had not received CoolSculpting. The best way to maintain optimal results from your CoolSculpting treatment is to embrace a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly, and eat nutritious, lean foods so that you both look and feel good, long term.

FAQ
Can you freeze your fat off at home?
Absolutely not. Do not try to simulate CoolSculpting’s effects with DIY, at-home remedies. Your efforts will be ineffective (at best) and potentially harmful (at worst). CoolSculpting is a popular medical spa procedure that leverages a process called cryolipolysis to reduce stubborn pockets of fat from areas that do not readily respond to the benefits of a healthy diet and regular exercise. The CoolSculpting device delivers cold temperatures to target areas by way of a vacuum applicator. Fat cells are particularly intolerant to the cold, so CoolSculpting freezes and eliminates them while leaving the surrounding skin and tissue unharmed. At-home remedies misguidedly attempt to recreate cryolipolysis by the direct application of ice or other frozen substances to the skin. This will not produce the intended effect. In fact, DIY “CoolSculpting” is dangerous and risks causing tissue damage.
Does CoolSculpting tighten loose skin?
CoolSculpting will not tighten loose skin. CoolSculpting is a popular procedure with a high success rate, but it can’t do everything. The procedure takes advantage of a biological quirk of adipose fat tissue: its sensitivity to low temperatures. Hence, through the strategic application of cold (-10°C, 14°F), CoolSculpting destroys fat cells but does not injure the neighboring skin.
Does CoolSculpting cause diarrhea?
Yes, it’s true. Some patients may experience diarrhea for the first few weeks after a CoolSculpting treatment. Don’t fret—you do not have a stomach virus. It is a mostly benign side effect that one should nonetheless carefully monitor and adequately prepare for. Be sure to stay hydrated. Eat foods like bananas, avocados and watermelon to replenish lost electrolytes. The mild gastric discomfort is a byproduct of cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting’s active mechanism. In a CoolSculpting session, strategic applications of cold temperatures kill the fat cells in the target area. During the weeks that follow, the dead cells are excreted by the body’s lymphatic system. Unfortunately, the patient may experience brief bouts of diarrhea until the excretion process is complete. Other side effects of CoolSculpting include redness, tenderness and moderate muscle cramping in the treatment area.[3]
How many treatments are needed for CoolSculpting?
Most patients achieve their desired results after two to three treatments of a target area. You can expect to begin seeing these results one month after your first treatment. The full flowering of your trim new look will bloom after two months. For optimum outcomes, your second treatment should be scheduled within 30 to 60 days of the first. Correctly timing your followup visits takes advantage of an inflammatory response in the fat cells that will enhance the procedure’s effectiveness. Results from CoolSculpting are not immediate. It takes a few weeks for the cryolipolysis process to run its course and fully eliminate fat cells from the treatment area.
Does CoolSculpting hurt?
Most patients report experiencing only mild discomfort during the procedure itself. The CoolSculpting device utilizes vacuum-powered applicators to gently grip the flesh and apply temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C) to kickstart the cryolipolysis process. During these initial moments, when the vacuum’s reverse pressure takes hold and the first waves of cold make their tingly presence known, you will feel what CoolSculpting’s manufacturer, Allergan, describes as “sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site.” But the power of cold has anesthetic properties. Allergan acknowledges this, going on to say, “These sensations subside as the area becomes numb.” In fact, many patients describe the whole affair as a rather relaxing experience. You can read, watch TV, even take a nap during your CoolSculpting treatments.
