FAQs

  • What are some of the common side effects of Restylane?

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

  • What should I tell my healthcare professional before having a treatment with a product from the Restylane family?

Tell your healthcare professional if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to become pregnant or breastfeed, or have any serious allergies or bleeding disorders. You should also tell your healthcare professional if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores. He or she may prescribe a medication to minimize recurrence. You should also tell him or her if you have recently used aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St John’s wort, or high doses of vitamin E supplements. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

  • Are there any reasons why I should not be treated with a product from the Restylane family?

Products in the Restylane family should not be used by people with previous bad allergies, particularly to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria, or by people with serious allergies to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment. These products should not be used by people with bleeding disorders. Products should not be injected anywhere except the skin, just under the skin (Perlane and Perlane-L only), or in the lips (Restylane only). Restylane-L and Perlane-L should not be used by anyone with a known allergy to lidocaine. Products should not be used during pregnancy, when breastfeeding, or in patients under 18 years for nasolabial folds and under 21 years for lips.

  • How much Restylane injectable gel will I need for full correction?

Due to the individual needs of each patient, it is important to discuss your full correction with your healthcare professional. However, in a clinical study where patients received full correction for their nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) during initial treatment in the Restylane Regimen, the average volume was 2 to 3 mL per patient.

  • When will I see results from Restylane?

The Restylane family of products instantly adds volume to help restore youthful contours, so you’ll see results immediately following your treatment.

  • What are the benefits of FotoFacial Treatments?

The benefits of FotoFacial Treatments are consistent, visible improvement in the skin. With FotoFacial Treatments the embarrassing redness and flushing of Rosacea can be greatly reduced and sun damaged, aging skin can be dramatically improved.

  • What are the indications for FotoFacial Treatments?

FotoFacial treatments are beneficial in the treatment of the following:

    • Effectively reducing redness and flushing
    • Sun damage, reducing fine wrinkling, freckling and irregular pigmentation
    • Smoothing your skin and reducing pore size
    • Reducing irregular pigment and creating even skin tone
    • Rosacea – reducing the overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries; possibly improving the breakouts of this common chronic facial condition

  • What areas can be treated with FotoFacial Treatments?

FotoFacial treatments can be used on any part of the skin. They are especially effective for improving the appearance of the face, neck, chest and hands.

  • What results can I expect from FotoFacial Treatments?

You can expect to see a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries. People with visible aging from the sun can expect to see their skin become smoother with a decrease in fine wrinkles, reduction in pore size and fading of sunspots. Many people with Rosacea see an improvement in breakouts and, in many cases, are able to decrease or discontinue their medications.

  • What is a FotoFacial treatment like?

Each treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes. A topical anethetic is applied in our office for 1 hour prior to treatments to minimize discomfort. The skin may appear red and flushed and tiny capillaries may appear more visibly immediately following a treatment. Brown spots may appear darker. All of these changes gradually fade over a period of hours to a few days.

  • How soon will I see results from FotoFacial Treatments?

Your skin will feel smoother and will have a more even tone after your first treatment. These improvements are gradual and will be more visible after each treatment; five treatments are performed for optimal results. Some patients will benefit from additional treatments.

  • Where can products in the Restylane family be used?

The Restylane family of products includes Restylane, Restylane-L®, Perlane®, and Perlane-L®. These products can be used individually to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds or laugh lines); lipstick lines (the area just below the nose and above the upper lip); the corners of the mouth; and marionette lines (the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline). Restylane may also be used for lip enhancement in patients over 21 years.

The safety and effectiveness of products in the Restylane family for the treatment of anatomic regions other than nasolabial folds and lips (Restylane only) have not been established in controlled clinical studies. Patients should be limited to 6.0 mL per treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Patients should be limited to 1.5 mL per lip per treatment (Restylane only). If a volume of more than 3 mL total is needed to achieve optimal correction for lip enhancement, a follow-up treatment session is recommended.

  • How often should I be treated with Restylane?

Restylane injectable gel has been clinically proven to provide results that last up to 18 months in the laugh lines (nasolabial folds), with only one follow-up treatment at either 4.5 or nine months. Your healthcare professional can work with you to help you establish your Restylane Regimen. Perlane injectable gel results may last up to six months after a single treatment.
