Botox Los Gatos Fine Lines and Wrinkles

BOTOX® Cosmetic

What is Botox®?  Is it Safe?  What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

  • Botox®is a neuromodulator, a nerve inhibitor that temporarily paralyzes the facial muscle, preventing wrinkles from forming. Botox is the commonly used name for Botulinum Toxin Type A, manufactured by Allergan Company, and is one of several available on the market today.  Botox is used worldwide to delay the signs of aging.
  • Botox® is FDA approved for the temporary improvement and reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles including moderate to severe forehead lines, lateral canthal lines and glabellar lines in adults.  Botox is considered safe for the treatments approved by the FDA (Federal Drug Administration).
  • Botox®and Dysport are both neurotoxins made by different manufacturers.  Botox is the most well known and many people ask for it by name. Botox is manufactured by Allergan, and Dysport is manufactured by Galderma.   Dysport is another product that is comparable, and some patients prefer it to Botox as the results can be different by product.  If you want to know more about the difference between these two wrinkle minimizers, Dr. Bitter can recommend the product that he believes will help you achieve your desired results.  We are one of the most experienced Botox Los Gatos providers, and many of Dr. Bitter’s patients come from all around Silicon Valley, the San Jose, Campbell, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Monterey.  Dr. Bitter also has many patients that come to him from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, San Diego and the surrounding areas in Los Angeles.

What areas of the face does Botox®Treat?

  • Botox is used on the face to treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.  It is also used in other areas such as the non surgical reduction of the mandible, also known as jaw reduction.  It has also been used for a variety of other treatments and new procedures are discovered and approved.
  • Botox can be used for those who wish to reduce the appearance of a square jawline and achieve a softer or v-shaped jawline. Some find a v shaped jawline gives them a more feminine or pleasing look.  This is commonly known as a non surgical jaw reduction; results are temporary as with botox in any other area and need to be repeated when the injectable product wears off.
  • Botox can be used for correcting frown lines around the mouth area and on the lines around the neck, also known as the platysmal neck bands.  This is less common, but we can answer any questions you have about the use of Botox for other areas.

How long does it take to see the results of Botox®?

  • Botox typically takes 7 to 10 days for noticeable results, though some individuals can see results sooner.
  • The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic typically last 2-3 months, but individual results may vary.
  • Lines and wrinkles are a normal part of aging, and are caused by the movement of our facial muscles.  Over time, these lines and wrinkles may deepen as we age.  Botox is injected into the muscles and works by temporarily freezing the muscles and preventing them from contracting.  Freezing the muscles helps by preventing the wrinkles from deepening.  This is one reason men and women who see visible wrinkles are trying Botox in their 30’s or at the first sign of wrinkles.

How often do I need to do Botox®? How many units do I need each time?

  • Repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results.  Dr. Bitter will be able to recommend the best course of treatment for you. Botox is not permanent, and results do wear off naturally over time.  Most patients prefer to come every 3 months for Botox and /or Dysport.  The number of units you may want or need may vary.  There are a number of items that can impact how long Botox will last for each person.  It is important to give your provider a thorough and accurate detail of any medical concerns and /or medication.  Your provider will be able to provide the best recommendation to give you optimal results.

What other conditions does Botox® treat?

  • Botox has been FDA approved to treat a number of other condition in addition to wrinkles.  The FDA has approved Botox for the treatment of hyperhydrosis also known as excessive sweating.  Many well known athletes and celebrites  have tried botox for wrinkles, hyperhydrosis and other treatments.
  • Botox is also indicated for the treatment of chronic migraines.  It is injected to prevent headaches in adults who have 15 or more days each month with headaches lasting 4 or more hours per day.  Botox has been used by many patients successfully to treat chronic headaches, and is considered safe and effective for the treatment of migraines.

What areas is Botox®approved for?

  • Botox has been approved for treatment of the frown lines (also known as 11’s or glabella area.  Botox is also approved to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, also known as crow’s feet.  Botox manufacturer Allergan recently gained approval by the FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration) for the use of the neurotoxin Botox to be used for the reduction in the appearance of forehead lines.

Do Men use BroTox? Do Celebrities use Botox?

  • Many male and female celebrities use Botox, Neuromodulators and other toxins such as Xeomin.   For men, Botox treatments are sometimes called BRO-TOX and XEO-MEN.  Botox, Dysport and other neurotixins may be another of Hollywood’s best kept beauty secrets.  Celebrities that have spoken publicly on their opinions about Botox include:  Kelly Ripa, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Brook Shields, Courtney Cox, Nicole Kidman, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian.  Some celebrities in Hollywood are very verbal about their avoidance of this product, and some are very verbal of their appreciation of the age delaying effects of neuromodulators and other Injectables such as Fillers.  However, each individual must make their own decision about what they feel is best and what makes them feel good about their own looks. At our practice, we believe in beautiful, natural results for every guest that walks in our door.
